Zohran Mamdani, the mayor of New York City, wants to open five grocery stores owned by the city. The stores will sell essential food products about 30% cheaper than in regular supermarkets. There will be one grocery store in each of the city’s five boroughs. Mamdani says the aim is to help ordinary New Yorkers buy food, as prices are high at the moment.
