Vocabulaire : mi-mandat = midterm / choisir = to choose / lois (f pl) = laws / sondages (m pl) = polls / montrer = to show / soutien (m) = support / appeler = to call / vague (f) = wave / actuellement = currently / espérer = to hope / gagner = to win / sièges (m pl) = seats

Democrats hope for a big win in the US midterm elections

Americans will vote in the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3. They will choose members of Congress, the institution that passes laws in the United States. Recent polls show more support for the Democratic Party than for President Donald Trump’s Republican Party. Some people are calling this a possible “blue wave”. This means a big victory for the Democrats. Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate. Democrats hope to win enough seats to gain a majority in Congress.
